The Omega Alpha Chapter of Sigma hosted its Fall Mixer on the Touro University California campus on Oct. 26, drawing several School of Nursing Alumni, program faculty members and current students to the Farragut Inn Ballroom for networking and a poster presentation.

School of Nursing alumnae in attendance included Jennifer Veler (Class of 2019), president of the chapter that's based at Touro; Jennifer Tudor (Class of 2015), founding president and current Governance Committee member; and Nikitia "Niki" Hardwick (Class of 2021), a Leadership Succession Committee member.

Veler said the chapter uses the Fall Mixer in part as an opportunity to show School of Nursing students how to put together poster presentations, providing examples of what she describes as "tips and tricks" for successful posters. Awards have been presented for the past several years for the best posters.

"And that's something they can put on their resumes," Veler said.

Networking for Nurses a Key Component

Networking is also a key aspect of the Fall Mixer.

"There is nothing more valuable than mentorship that is authentic, inspiring, and positive," said Dr. Prabjot "Jodie" Sandhu, Director of the School of Nursing. "Our alums are the organic future of our students and our students need to see, feel, and understand the possibilities, the realities and the reach of their dreams by interacting with alums. It is such a powerful connection."

The Sigma mission is to develop nurse leaders anywhere to improve health care everywhere. The local chapter is based out of Touro University California's School of Nursing.
