This philosophy was championed by Kaiser Permanente’s late chairman and CEO Bernard J. Tyson, who worked tirelessly, before his passing in 2019, to address the health care disparities that plague the U.S. healthcare system. He was a passionate leader who was dedicated to making a difference in health care.
Born and raised in Vallejo, Bernard had a deep understanding of the challenges that underserved communities faced. He spent his entire career in health care making an impact to promote equity and inclusion.
Today, Kaiser Permanente reflects the diversity of the communities they serve. In 2022, nearly 69% of their employees were members of racial, ethnic, and cultural minorities, and 74% were women.
