TOURO UNIVERSITY NEVADA RESEARCH

Welcome to the Touro University Nevada Research web site. This web site is intended to inform and update the research and scholarly activities of our faculty members and our students to all member institutions of the Touro family as well as to the community

Research Mission and Opportunities

Touro University Nevada (TUN) embraces the mission of offering outstanding osteopathic medical education as well as developing a unique environment for clinical, basic science, educational and community-based research. TUN is committed to promoting the health of individuals and the populations in the Southern Nevada region not only by training physicians and other Health Professionals (e.g. Physician Assistant, Occupational Therapist and Post-Graduate Nurse), but also through high quality research.

TUN aims at developing and enhancing its basic science research programs by drawing on strengths in the areas of immunity and infection, neuroscience, cardiac physiology, biochemistry and microbial ecology. Histological and morphological studies are among the other areas of interest. Our investigators have developed collaborative research activities with established local and out of state research institutions with state-of-the-art facilities. Collaborative agreements are currently being established with many institutions as described below (partners). TUN has a shared-laboratory for Basic-science and clinical research activities. The lab has state of art facilities for primary tissue and cell culture studies and has the ability to support other biological and biochemical studies.
Clinical research activities are being developed within the University and in close collaboration with other institutes. TUN has already been involved in such endeavors and has accommodated a clinical research institute, the Medical Education and Research Institute of Nevada (MERIN). This institute provides a venue for surgeons from all over the world to learn innovative surgical procedures and at the same time serves as a foundation for clinical research at TUN. Collaboration with Nevada Cancer Institute (NCI) and other local clinical research institution is highly promising.

The Osteopathic Medicine, Physician Assistant, Nursing, and Occupational Therapy programs of TUN are participating in an integrated fashion in developing university-wide research on health-care delivery and the development of its technology. The University also promotes interdisciplinary studies in Bioethics and the Society, Culture, and Health of Populations through community-based research activities.
TUN offers intramural research grant on a competitive basis and also supports and assists in research design through consulting with TUN faculty members. We also attempt to keep our students and faculty members appraised of external grant opportunities as they come available.
