Vallejo diabetes class to help attendees manage disease

Classes have started Monday for a Diabetes Education Program which teaches attendees on how to manage diabetes and different aspects of self-care, such as how to use glucometers and perform foot exams.

Vallejo residents can still join in the seven-week course, which will be run by the Touro University California Student-Run Free Clinic, and will be held at the Norman C. King Community Center at 545 Magazine Street on Monday evenings.

Touro students will discuss diet and nutrition, medications, doctor’s visits and health issues related to diabetes with those who attend the program.

An extra week will be devoted to quitting smoking and insulin use.

The class is open to those dealing with diabetes and one family member, 18 years of age or older.
