Touro University California on Mare Island will be observing the upcoming Jewish holiday
of Sukkot, an eight-day harvest holiday that arrives during the Hebrew month of Tishrei.
Sukkot, one of three biblically mandated festivals, gives thanks and also commemorates
the 40 years that the Jewish people wandered in the desert. It follows the solemn
holiday of Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, which was celebrated with services
by Rabbi Elchonon Tenenbaum on the Mare Island campus this week.
Touro University California (TUC), in keeping with its mission and Jewish affiliation,
keeps these high and holy days as sacred. In observance of the holidays, the TUC campus
will close noon Wednesday, and remain closed Thursday and Friday.
The campus will also close 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25 and remain closed Sept. 26-27.
