'Just Food' a big hit
Posted: Fall 2012
Thank you to those who attended the first annual Just Food -- Celebrating Locally Grown event on Saturday, Oct. 20. We celebrated World and U.S. Food Day with an educational speakers' panel discussing food justice, food security and sustainable farming. We also enjoyed the very informative and educational documentary, "Fresh", about America's agricultural industry and the sustainable food movement, as well as enjoying delicious locally grown food and libation while overlooking a classic Vallejo sunset on Mare Island strait.
A very special thank you to this year's fiscal sponsors: Sutter Solano Medical Center and Kaiser Permanente. We also want to thank our speakers' panel: Lucy Thairu, Associate Professor of Touro University, Esperanza Pallana, Coordinator of the Oakland Food Policy Council and Rita LeRoy, Farm Keeper at Loma Vista Farm. And thank you to Cal Maritime Academy for their in-kind support and contributions. Without the support of these institutions and individuals, Just Food would not have been possible.
It was a great first-time event in a beautiful location. And we're already looking forward to and planning for next year's Just Food event. See you there!
