Four NorthBay Nurses Earn $5K Scholarships

Four NorthBay Healthcare nurses have earned the first-ever nursing scholarships from NorthBay Healthcare and Travis Credit Union, it was announced during a White Coat Ceremony on Jan. 12 at Touro University.
Four $5,000 scholarships were presented to Hilda Castro, R.N., Michelle Kahrimanian, R.N., Marianne Neil, R.N., and Brad Vasconcelles, R.N.
Castro is a clinical nurse in the ambulatory surgery unit. Her goal is to complete her master’s in nursing and ultimately become a nurse practitioner.
Vasconcelles is a clinical assistant manager in specialty care. His goal is to complete his master’s and focus on clinical nurse leadership.
Neil is a clinical nurse in the Acute Care Unit at NorthBay VacaValley Hospital. Her goal is to earn her master’s and ultimately become a nurse practitioner.
Kahrimanian is a clinical nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at NorthBay Medical Center. Her goal is to earn her Clinical Nurse Leader Certification and become a preceptor for future nursing students.
The announcements were made during the ceremony by NorthBay Healthcare CEO and President Gary Passama and Travis Credit Union CEO Barry Nelson.
“We were excited when Travis Credit Union and Touro University colleagues came to us with the inspiration to create a scholarship program for nursing students,” Passama told the audience at Lander Hall. “We want to nurture our best and brightest, close to home.”
In all, 33 students participated in the White Coat Ceremony, which is a symbolic rite of passage welcoming students into the medical profession. Of those, 18 are NorthBay employees.
“And, since many of you are already practicing medical professionals, the white coat is symbolic of your willingness to accept new leadership roles in nursing,” explained Ann Stoltz, Touro’s director of nursing, who presided over the ceremony.
University faculty (including NorthBay Healthcare Nurse Practitioners Alonya Elgrabley and Julian Gallegos) and directors as well as student preceptors (many NorthBay Healthcare employees) assisted during the ceremony.In addition to Vasconcelles, Castro, Kahrimanian and Neil, NorthBay nurses receiving white coats included Carmen Alaofin, Samantha Brown, Lisa Cannon, Sarika Cunningham, Leah Galbraith, Jason Hebard, Gregory Hervey, Jean Johnston, Katrice LaRowe, Stephanie Marquez, Arold Nelson, Ken Smithour, Jeanette Williams and Linda Wysocki.
