Flag being flown again in front of Mare Island hospital

VALLEJO — The American flag is flying again in front of the Mare Island hospital, for the first time since 9/11.

Local dignitaries and military veterans joined with Touro University California staff in a special ceremony Friday as the Stars and Stripes was raised on the restored flag pole in front of the historic hospital.

“This is a very important occasion for Touro University California,” said Shelley Berkley, university chief executive officer and senior provost. “Our students came to us and said they would like to see the flag flown again over Mare Island.
