Solano ranks last in Bay Area for health
FAIRFIELD — A foundation’s survey puts Solano County last in the Bay Area for health – and problems like “food deserts” figure into the ranking, a public health professor says.
Gayle Cummings, associate professor in the public health program at Touro University in Vallejo, said the limited access some local residents have to healthy foods at grocery stores affects their health.
The New Jersey-based Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, working with the University of
Wisconsin, measured physical inactivity, the food environment, smoking and other matters
in the ranking that put Marin County first and Solano last among Bay Area counties.
