FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Financial Aid

Question: What do I need to do to get financial aid?

Answer: You can apply for financial aid by completing a FAFSA form. FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. You can do this by going to the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. When completing the FAFSA, you’ll need your federal tax return (if you filed). Also, be sure to use the 010142-25 school code.

Question: How much will I be eligible for and when will I receive it?

Answer: When awarding financial aid, we create a financial aid budget or cost of attendance. The budget includes tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, personal and miscellaneous expenses and travel costs (to and from school). Financial Aid is available to meet a documented need up to the budget allowance.

Question: Do I have to include my parent’s tax information on the FAFSA?

Answer: When completing the FAFSA, questions are asked to determine your dependency status. If you are considered independent you do not have to include your parent’s tax information.

Question: How do I apply for the alternative loan?

Answer: For the alternative loan, students apply on-line through one of our preferred lenders. A credit check will be done by the lender. Once the loan is approved, a school certification is completed, then the funds are disbursed.

Question: What are the interest rates for the loans?

Answer: The Stafford loan rates are currently 3.46%. They change each July 1st. The alternative loan rates change each year and are tied to the Prime rate. The current interest rate for alternative loans is approximately 5%.

Question: Can my previous Stafford loans be deferred? When do I have to start repaying my student loans?

Answer: Once you start school, your previous Stafford loans can be put in deferment. Contact the holder of your Stafford loans and tell them you are returning to school. They will give you the information for putting your loans back into deferment.

Question: Will I be eligible for Pell Grants? What about scholarships?

Answer: Students enrolled in graduate programs are not eligible for Pell Grants programs. Occasionally, there are scholarships available from a variety of sources. Fastweb.com is a good source for various scholarship opportunities.

Question: Who do I contact if I still have questions?
