COP wins CSC and Quiz Bowl
Touro University California College of Pharmacy students won first place in the Clinical Skills Competition and the Quiz Bowl at the California Society of Health-System Pharmacist Seminar 2009 meeting in San Diego, California. The competitions included students from seven California schools and colleges of pharmacy. Senior Touro students, Monica Donnelly and Jeremy Bair, will represent California at the national Clinical Skills Competition at the Midyear Clinical Meeting of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in Las Vegas, Nevada in December 2009.
COP faculty receive intramural research grants.
COP faculty received approximately $67,000 in research grants from the Touro University Intramural Research Program. Several awards were for collaborations between College of Pharmacy and College of Osteopathic Medicine faculty.
• Dr. Kevin Ita: Transdermal iontophoretic delivery of penbutolol sulfate;
• Dr. Daniel Keppler in collaboration with Dr. Athena Lin: The Role of Cystatin 1 in Cellular Senescence;
• Dr. Shengquan Liu and Dr. Maggie Louie in collaboration with Dr. Doris Benbrook: Design, synthesis, and pharmacological evaluation of polar SHetA2 analogs as novel cancer prevention agents;
• Dr. Alison McCormick in collaboration with Dr. Evan Hermel: Analysis of Toll-like Receptor Signaling by Encapsidated RNA; and
• Dr. Karl Meszaros in collaboration with Dr. Jean-Marc Schwarz: The Role of De Novo Lipogenesis in the Transofmration of Macrophages to foam cells during Atherogenesis.
